Drivers have been saving a lot of money on gas and maintenance costs by choosing electric cars. Starting in July 2023, legislation was passed to increase the tax credit for Colorado residents purchasing EVs. This represented a huge discount on Nissan electric cars for sale in Fort Collins, Colorado, where EVs are already competitively priced.

Qualifying for the Colorado EV Tax Credit
At the start of 2025, the credit is $3,500 until 2026, then $1,500 until 2027, and $500 until 2029. This is a state tax credit, so only taxpayers in the state of Colorado can apply for the credit. The time to buy is now.
The tax credit only applies to vehicles with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) under $80,000. Vehicles priced over that amount will not be eligible for the state tax credit. Other than that, the state has made qualifying for this remarkable incentive fairly easy.
What Has Changed Since July of 2023?
The EV tax credit peaked right before January of 2025 and now it stands to gradually decline over the course of the next few years. The Nissan Leaf S trim level Colorado tax incentive goes from $8,100 to $6,600 starting in January 2025. All other Nissan Leaf trim levels go from $5,600 to $4,100. For Nissan EV buyers, now is the time to take advantage of these incentives before they start to gradually decline into 2029.
